Illuminated manuscript of the Bible

A bible is a collection of ancient religious writings usually bound together as a book and considered a sacred text inspired by God. The prime example is the Christian Bible, which is divided into the Old and New Testaments. The Old Testament forms a large part of the Jewish Torah, and there are many similarities between these and the Muslim Qur'an.

Many references from the Bible occur in modern sayings and allusions.
